Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. It's the time that we celebrate and recognize histories, cultures and contributions by Hispanic Americans and our ancestors. It's also the time that many Latin American countries celebrate the anniversary of their independence.

#HispanicHeritageMonth to me means, when all Latinos can unite together and celebrate who we are and inspire one another. My family came from Guatemala and during this month I celebrated Guatemala's Independence Day.  I couldn't be prouder to be a Chapina.

JCPenney honors Hispanic Heritage Month by turning the attention to inspirational Latino men and women. These inspirational people help motivate us to achieve greater things and find our voices. I would like to honor my boyfriend's parents Jose and Amelia this month who have been like a second family to me with a gift from JCPenney. They inspire me every day, they both came from El Salvador and Guatemala with nothing and made it happen. They have worked very hard and now own their own business and home in Pasadena California.

I was very excited to pick out their gifts. I wanted to pick out something that they would enjoy and fit their personalities. Jose loves running. He runs almost every day around the Pasadena Rose Bowl so I thought a sports watch would be perfect. Amelia loves clothes as much as I do. It's getting cold now so I choose a floral print wrap. She can use it as a scarf or a nice layer piece to keep her warm. #SoWorthIt
